“MyCostaMesa” mobile app replaces “Costa Mesa Connect”

The City of Costa Mesa recently launched MyCostaMesa, a new mobile app that is replacing the city’s first mobile app, Costa Mesa Connect.  MyCostaMesa is now available for free download on the Apple App Store and Google Play, and will have all the same citizen request/reporting features of Costa Mesa Connect. Citizens will no longer be able to submit requests using the old Costa Mesa Connect app beginning Friday, Aug. 24.  The new and improved benefits and features of the new app include:

  • Improved service request tracking system to ensure open cases are resolved in a timely fashion.
  • Better and more thorough reporting system for staff to track requests for service.
  • Platform that uses new and more stable software.
  • MyCostaMesa allows citizens to report issues using their phone’s GPS and camera capabilities, review existing requests, send updates, and receive phone and email notifications of status changes on their issues.
  • Residents can also submit a service request via the city website and review their submission history and knowledge base articles online.
  • Requests can be submitted for graffiti removal, pothole repairs, dumped items, coyote sightings, etc.
  • The app also provides access to Costa Mesa news, calendar listings, public meeting agendas and much more.

President’s Corner — August, 2018

In last month’s President’s Corner, I reviewed comments from our recent survey. The most prevalent pertained to traffic issues; speeding, running stop signs, and noise.  We brought this to the attention of CMPD, and got the immediate response of Chief Rob Sharpnack, “I think we can help you, but specifics would be helpful.” So, we got them, from you, our residents.  Keep the comments coming: where, what time, what day. Is it speeding, running stop signs, etc. Be specific.  We are gathering all this information and working with Lt. Victor Bakkila, traffic division.  Let’s hope we can make a big dent in this  problem. This will be an ongoing project, and we will keep you informed of progress.

We are working on some informational Town Hall meetings in the next few months, and will announce soon. Mark your calendar for October 4th, when we will be holding our candidate forum for City Council and Mayor.

We still have a good inventory of our famous NO SOLICITATION signs, including mounting brackets, for $5 each. Please contact Arlene Jones at 714-540 6039.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER — JULY 2018

Many of you were kind enough to complete our recent survey, so I thought I would summarize the most common themes, in response to the last survey question, “What would you like to see most from MVCI?”

1. Provide information on what is going on in town, especially Mesa Verde.

2. What is being done about the homeless and the sober living facilities?

3. Organize more community activities, I.e. town halls, etc.

4. Remind residents to keep their property presentable.

5. Stop the speeding in our neighborhoods.

6. Keep us informed as to what the city council is up to.

7. Do not engage in politics.

8. What are the benefits of membership in MVCI?

9. Why is crime increasing?

10. You’re doing fine-just keep it up.

Of course, we wish all responses were #10, but then, we wouldn’t have anything left to do. Let’s look at some of these themes. #1: we will step up the pace. Please check our website, as we try to keep it fresh. www.mesaverdecommunity.org. Also, visit our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1083641171668836/), and sign up for our e-mail blast at admin@mesaverdecommunity.org. Our next semi-annual newsletter is scheduled for publication in late September. #3: we’re working on several town hall events during the Winter. We will be holding a candidate’s forum in October, our annual meeting in March, and our picnic in May.  #5: Would love to. We will notify CMPD of the concern in our community.  #7: We don’t. We are a non-political. Non-partisan association. #8: Great question! Please visit our website as to who we are and what we do.

We will work on a more persuasive statement, but keep in mind our mission statement “Inform, Protect and Beautify” Mesa Verde. These are the ends to which we strive, in our advocacy for Mesa Verde residents. Finally, #9, CMPD statistics indicate crime to actually be decreasing, but, if it happens in your neighborhood, ….. well, that’s different. We might suggest you consider forming a Neighborhood Watch group, sponsored by our Police Dept. We can help you with that.

We appreciate your participation in our survey, and we will be doing these periodically. If you have a specific problem, please contact us through our website. We will do our best to help you. We will release other survey findings in subsequent posts.

President’s Corner — May, 2018

Hope you are all noticing the gorgeous May flowers that the April showers brought. It’s looking real nice around the community.

Our first picnic, held Saturday, May 19th, is in the books. Twenty or so families participated; the weather was decent, the kids played games, prizes were awarded, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. You can see a few pictures below. So, I think it was a reasonable success for our first try, and we’ll do another next Spring, only a little bigger and a little better. Thanks to the Mesa Verde United Methodist Church for allowing us to use their facilities.

Congratulations and thanks to Kyle Byron and Lisa Gonzalez for becoming our newest lifetime members.  Who will be next?

Have you noticed our newly refurbished MVCI gateway signs?  They’re on Adams at the corners of Mesa Verde West and Shantar. A new sign will soon appear on the northeast corner of Adams and Mesa Verde West. Your membership dues at work.

We still have a supply of “No Solicitation” yard signs available. Price is $5 each, including mounting bracket. You may purchase through our website,  or contact me at bob@juneman.com.

President’s Corner — February, 2018

Happy Valentine’s Day.  I hope you are all celebrating this happy occasion with your loved ones. Our world can use a little more love and caring, and what better time to express it?

A reminder that we will hold our annual meeting on March 28th.  As usual, it will be at the United Methodist Church, 1701 Baker St.  Doors open at 6:30, meeting at 7:00. Our theme this year will be “Family and Neighborhood Safety”.  All residents of Mesa Verde are welcome, member or not. So, come meet and greet your neighbors and enjoy an informative evening. If you are not yet a member, we will make it easy for you at the meeting.

Our Board consists of nine members, each serving a two year term.  But, there is always a lot to accomplish in pursuing our mission statement to “ Inform, Protect, and Beautify” Mesa Verde.  And, as we are all volunteers, we have limited time and resources. So, we would like to enlist a cadre of volunteers whom we could call on from time to time for special projects.  This would be a great opportunity to serve our community without committing to any time or schedule.  If this idea appeals to you, please contact us, either through this website, or respond to me at bob@juneman.com

President’s Corner — January, 2018

Happy New Year, twelve new months ahead of us in which to excel. I’m looking forward to a great year, and hope you are too.

Our Board began the year with the loss of Board member and Secretary Virginia Vargas. Virginia and her husband are expanding their law practice, so she will be devoting time to that endeavor. We wish them great success. We are extremely fortunate to welcome Betty Cummings as our new Board member and Secretary. Betty and her husband Terry have been  Mesa Verde residents for many years, and she brings vast secretarial experience to our Board. Welcome aboard Betty.

We will be holding the annual meeting of MVCI on March 28th, so mark your calendar. Our theme this year is “Family and Neighborhood Safety”.  Speakers from our Police and Fire departments will bring us tried and true methods for enhancing the integrity of our homes.

This is an election year, and we will be electing City Council members by district rather than at large as before. The Mayor will be elected at large, by the voters, rather than by the Council. Costa Mesa will have six districts, so the Council will consist of six Council members, plus the Mayor.Some new wrinkles on the political scene.  More on this later as the picture unfolds.

We always like to hear from you: How are we doing? What would you like to see from us? Would you like us to hold a “candidate’s forum” as we have in the past? Social activity, such as a chili cook off, barbecue, picnic? Games for the kids? Give us feedback. You can contact us easily through the website.

Our goal is to keep our website fresh with new ideas and information. For example, we just added the ability to pay your dues and make contributions via PayPal. So please stay tuned. I’ll talk to you again next month.

“NO SOLICITATION” Signs

Special Bulletin! MVCI recently produced 600 “No Solicitation” signs for the community and they are available for purchase for $5.00 per sign. This includes the “H” frame if you want to place the sign in the ground. Cash only, please and try to have the correct amount.

MVCI President Bob Juneman and Board members Arlene Jones and Terry Wall have agreed to act as distribution points and Bob has graciously offered his home as the first pick up location on Saturday, December 2nd. Bob will be “open for business” from 9:00am until 4:00pm. Drop by, pick up a sign and visit with our association president. Details regarding Arlene and Terry’s availability will follow shortly. Please also consider joining MVCI, and we’ll have membership/renewal applications available, as well.

President’s Corner — November 2017

As we approach the Holiday Season, let us be thankful for Mesa Verde as our wonderful home. Let’s do whatever we can to keep it safe and beautiful. Let’s have hope that our local and national leaders will find the right solutions to the many problems they face each day. Finally, let us work together to see peace in this world in the new year.”
